Derek Spaldo is an actor, musician, and playwright/director. He is represented by Stewart Talent Chicago. He earned his MFA in Acting from The Theatre School at DePaul University. ​

 

Born in Rutherford, NJ, Derek attended Eugene Lang College, The New School for Liberal Arts, earning his BA in Theatre. Working in the New York City downtown theatre scene as an actor, playwright/director, sound designer/technician, and stage manager, he had the pleasure of working with artists and companies such as Hamlet Isn't Dead, Paul Lazar, Christina Masciotti, Richard Maxwell/New York City Players, and Zishan Ugurlu, at spaces such as Abrons Arts Center, Baryshnikov Arts Center, The Bushwick Starr, The Chocolate Factory, Dixon Place, La MaMa, The Sheen Center, as well as MaineStage Shakespeare and international tours to France and Croatia.​

 

His plays Playground, PITCH, Scene from a Room, and The Killers of Comedy have run to acclaim at spaces in New York such as The Brick, Dixon Place, and La MaMa. ​

Derek was a long-time multi-instrumentalist in the critically acclaimed band Garcia Peoples; with Garcia Peoples he worked with artists such as Matt Sweeney, Chris Forsyth, and PG Six.​ 

 

Derek has been writing and recording solo music projects since 2010.​​​​​​​​​
